Shorts for Summer!

Fashion, indian fashion blog, myntra, shopping, sponsored post, summer, wishlist
Shorts and skirts have always been synonymous with summer. They are comfortable, cute, airy, makes it so much easier to ride a bike, sit, stand, run and do absolutely anything inspite of the heat. Also you get to show off a gorgeous summer tan from your most recent beach vacation.  As the temperature gets soaring higher and higher, I have started packing away my jeans and trousers and replacing them with printed shorts, lace shorts, denim and so on! From the time Myntra has launched their shopping app, I haven’t been able to resist browsing through all their summer collections every day.

Style has always been a way to tell the world who you are without having to speak. I always believe that any outfit you wear is an extension of your personality. For someone like me who relies heavily on visual stimulation, playing dress up everyday according to my mood is the best way to project how I am feeling. If someone had to look at my pictures and put my style under a category they would say its simple, casual and experimental. Those words pretty much sum up my personality as well!

Come summer, I tend to go the same route again – casual, simple and experimental. A lot of people restrict their options for styling just because they think certain types of clothes have been stereotyped for certain types of personalities. You can look simple and elegant whether you are wearing a full-sleeved dress or hot pants or a backless blouse and saree. It all depends on how you style and carry the outfit. Similarly you don’t need mile long legs to wear shorts and look good in them. You just need to pick the right style for your body type and wear them like you own them (not the other way around!)

Myntra has stocked up on more than 2000 styles of shorts and skirts on their app for you to explore. Here are some of my favorite picks and how you can style them for different occasions!

Active shorts from Only: Summer is no excuse to skip on your workout. Yes, the heat and the sweat might make the thought of walking away from your air conditioned bedroom unbearable, but that’s the reason you have cute options like these right? Priced at Rs.747/- there’s nothing like a bright cheery pair of workout shorts to get you moving and grooving. Plus you need to have those legs ready to flaunt them all summer!

Printed black shorts from Tokyo Talkies: They’ve got some really good options in both plain and printed shorts. The plain ones can easily be paired with a bright tee and maybe a blazer if it’s not too hot. I’ve always been a fan of printed shorts, and these black ones are a steal at just Rs.524/-

White lace shorts from Only: You can’t do summer without at least one option of white. With a pretty lace hem, these can be dressed up with a summery top, fancy flats and a pair of sunglasses for an evening dinner. Only has always been one brand that’s up-to date on the latest trends and they have some really good pieces for the summer. This pretty number is priced at Rs.2495/-

Blue and white skort from Belle fille: This brand is a new discovery of mine. And I have just one word to say about their collection – amazing! I literally couldn’t choose which ones I liked more. The options are endless, for every occasion, mood and body-type. The blue and white skort was something that attracted me instantly. The stripes make it look all the more cuter and this can be style in many different ways. Priced at Rs.1079/- it’s totally worth it!

High waist printed shorts from Belle fille: For a slightly bohemian look, this pair of high-waisted shorts priced at Rs.1079/- would be a perfect pick. Whether you pair it with a crop top or a long, loose white shirt half tucked in, it won’t fail to make a statement. Belle fille is one brand with endless options specially if you are looking to update your summer wardrobe with plenty of shorts!

Denim shorts from Only: Your shorts collection can never be complete without a pair of well worn denim shorts. When in doubt, always go back to classics. Invest in a well fitted pair of denim cut-offs, and you are set for almost any occasion!  This pair is priced at Rs.2295/-

Garnier #TwiceAsNice

collaboration, Fashion, garnier, indian fashion blog, Look of the Day
The first time I had used Garnier was when they came up with the Love Long hair range of shampoo & conditioner with a new formula, sometime last year. Until then it wasn’t really a brand that I had paid much attention to. Although I tend to keep changing my hair products every few months, I used Garnier constantly for almost six months or so. I was never much into beauty products but with the launch of Garnier’s new Summer cleansing skin care routine, I decided to give one my favorite brands a try again. I have combination skin and it’s a nightmare to manage it all through the year. It’s moody and I can almost never get it to behave properly. Recently Garnier had come up with an interesting challenge for their new launch, where you could team up with your blogger buddy to create looks based on the theme TwiceAsNice.

One of the best aspects of blogging is the chance to connect with like minded people and fellow bloggers. For the longest time Rohita from My Faded Denim and I had been planning to meet up and collaborate.  When she contacted me regarding this I jumped at the chance of doing something interesting with the concept. After a lot of messages back and forth over a period of two weeks, we finally decided to embrace the ever popular summer trend of crop tops and slouchy trousers. Although, because of time constraints and other personal commitments we couldn’t manage to shoot together, we did manage to put together looks that complemented the theme perfectly!

I love using scrubs during the summer! I usually use a lot of home made scrubs as my skin tends to get dehydrated very quickly due to the dryness and heat.
Garnier Neem Pure Active facewash: This was so refreshing to use and so light on the skin. The consistency is very gel like and tt cleanses like a dream and I’ve been using it regularly!

Garnier Apricot exfoliating scrub: This feels quite soft and even. Exfoliates well and is not harsh on the skin (which is a must for me!). Although the smell is yummy, it’s does get a bit too strong for my taste.

My day typically starts with my phone and ends with my phone. Whether it’s for a quick check for new emails, a browse through instagram or facebook, or reading the news and interesting articles while having breakfast – I don’t think I can live a second without my phone. I use it for everything right from replying to mails, chalking out to-do lists, scheduling meetings, scanning documents, browsing videos, being up-to-date with all my social media accounts and last but not the least – shopping!

As a blogger, my work schedule can sometimes get crazy with no time to sit and breathe. There are days when I am at an early morning shoot, followed by a quick breakfast, rushing to meetings, making calls while in the car, planning the next shoot, jotting down ideas for posts – all while I am on the go. Needless to say, shopping happens when I am on the go as well. I like to keep myself up-to date on what’s new and what’s on sale on my favorite shopping sites. You never know when I might need to source something for the next shoot or when I might spot something that I love on sale or when I might come across something so quirky that it instantly gives me an idea for the next shoot.
With more and more retail stores like Myntra coming up with exclusive apps for shopping, the need to open your laptop keeps decreasing day by day.

Access from anywhere, anytime
Like I said, my whole professional and personal life is run from my mobile (sounds dramatic I know, but it’s true to an extent!). I need to be connected 24×7, and there are many instances where the thin line between using social media for recreation and for work keeps getting blurred. Spending additional time on my laptop is something that I try to avoid, more so because my shopping urges tend to hit me at the most unexpected times – while in the car, when eating at a restaurant, or when am simply too lazy to walk three feet and get my laptop while am on the bed. Why go to all that trouble when I can shop from the comforts of an app, from literally anywhere!

Stay logged in all the time and faster checkout
Shopping through an app is definitely way faster than trying to browse through your laptop. Just one click to access the store, another couple of clicks to select your products and you pay in an instant. Personally I hate logging in to my account each time, and since I have too many accounts to even remember them in the first place, this works for me! Instead of typing in every mail id that I could have possibly registered with, or trying to generate a new password every time, I can actually breeze through the checkout process in a matter of minutes.

App-only discounts and offers
I am a huge discount shopper, and am always on the lookout for coupons and deals while shopping. Apps like Myntra usually provide exclusive discount coupons which are not available anywhere else. So there’s your chance to snag that dress you’ve been eyeing for so long or a pair of heels that you’ve secretly been hoping will go on sale so that you don’t have to break your account over them.

Sharing is easy
Social media, email, and instant messaging – with an app for everything on your mobile, sharing your finds with friends and family (or your readers if you are a blogger!) is so easy. Each time I find something that I like, or I put together a look with products from a website that I feel might inspire someone; I tend to share it on my social media channels, sharing is caring after all!

With the ease of shopping through an app and the convenience of selecting any product that you want, app shopping (yes I just made up that word) is here to stay!

Summer footwear – embelishments!

Fashion, indian fashion blog, shoes, sponsored post, summer, trends

As the temperature has slowly started to soar, I have already begun my whining and complaints of how hot it is and how I feel like I am melting into a gooey puddle just after a couple of minutes in the sun. I am all for summer and tropical weather and beaches but sometimes it gets too unbearable, and there is nothing much that you can do about it. When summer comes I turn nocturnal, venturing out only after sunset. Rest of the day is spent being holed up at my desk with work, accompanied by a constant supply of cold drinks, and editing and researching for articles – which is just a fancy term for mindless browsing over various blogs, magazines and shopping sites.

Clothing during summer has to invariably be as comfortable, airy and minimal as possible. There is absolutely no intention of stacking up on accessories either. Just the thought of layering anything, even a simple necklace, makes you want to peel off the layers. The only accessories I have fun with are shoes! You must know by now, that I am a hoarder of shoes and happily so! A girl can never have enough! Embellished shoes are all the rage this season. They add a little sparkle to your otherwise hot and humid day, and they are also the easiest way to add an extra something to your simple summer dress/skirt/shorts. Since I’ve already committed the sin of not shopping for the longest time ever, I didn’t waste any time in putting together a wish-list that would help all you guys with some inspiration as to what style you can go for as well!

Gladiators

  • Consider the shape of your leg before buying gladiator sandals
  •  Knee-high gladiators for long legs and ankle length for shorter legs
  • Also, wear chunkier styles with pants rather than dresses
  • Decide if you want flats or heels. T-strap looks great for flats!
  • When wearing knee-length or calf length, don’t overdo the clothes and other accessories

Embellished Sandals

  • Evaluate your wardrobe before deciding which pair to purchase
  • If your wardrobe leans to the casual side, you can go for heavy, colorful embellishment
  • If you wear a lot of dressy pieces, go for neutral solid color
  • Embellished flip flops are a more casual alternative that you can consider
  • If you don’t want to spend big bucks, buy some beads/studs/stones and do your own DIY!

Embellished Pumps

  • Perfect for a night out where you sparkle in your best
  • Go for quality and make sure the embellishments don’t fall off!
  • Subtle colors with delicate embellishments are your best bet
  • A six inch heel + striking color might be a little too much sometimes, so opt for a shorter heel when going for bolder patterns

How to: Wear a red shirt in 5 ways

Fashion, how-to, indian fashion blog, Remix
As I sit at my desk today to pen down a post, it feels as if I am coming back home after a very long vacation. Life has taken a drastic turn over the past month and I am still trying to get my feet back on the ground!

For a change blogging had taken a back seat while I focused on other important matters of my life. You know those phases where priorities just take over, and you really don’t want to spend too much time coming up with creative outfits to wear? That’s usually when I tend to live in the same clothes day after day, the comfiest, softest ones that are just so familiar to touch and feel. But, there’s no reason to dress the same way even if you are wearing the same clothes everyday!

Color block it with a skirt!

Red and royal blue has somehow become my go-to combination. I love the visual contrast they provide and how they perfectly complement each other. Although it might seem a little too festive (think 4th of July) or cartoon-ish (think superman), when the right shades are paired in the right way and with the right kind of accessories it’s a visual treat!

The classic tucked in look!

There is something about tucking in a shirt into you favorite pair of skinny jeans that gives it a very business like, no nonsense feel. Black and red are a classic color combo that never fails, be it for business or pleasure!

The I-shall-laze-around-home-with-a-book-all-day look!

Whether you love them or hate them looks like overalls are here to stay. They are one of the most versatile pieces of clothing and if paired correctly you can very much look like a grown up in them! You can wear them with crop tops, tank tops, simple tshirts or a bright red shirt!

Overalls: Levis | Shoes: forever21.com

Tie it around your waist

This is the easiest, simplest trend that evokes an effortlessly cool vibe. Also, your shirt is always in a handy place if you suddenly need to throw it on to keep warm. If you are wearing a loose top, trying a button down shirt around your waist will automatically balance it out to create an hour-glass figure. And adding a bright colored shirt to a basic blue jeans – white tee combo adds color and a spark of interest to your outfit!

Wear it over a fancy dress

The best way to tone down a fancy dress and wear it in a more causal setting is to add a cardigan or a shirt. Adding a button down shirt over a dress makes it possible to wear it anywhere during the day time. This is also the easiest way to wear all your summer dresses during chilly weather. A sling bag and a pair of heels will complete your look!

Desi Girl

Fashion, hyderabad, indian fashion blog, Indian wear, Look of the Day, Styling
Every once in a while I tend to come back to my Indian roots and desi dressing. In fact I would say it’s quite often! As much as I enjoy the comfort of a jeans and a tshirt or the feminine and flirty look of a lace dress, I would always always say that there is nothing as elegant and graceful as Indian wear. More than half the Indian population still dresses in a traditional attire so I never understand why as fashion bloggers we rarely feature Indian clothes on our blogs. As an Indian fashion blogger, I make it a point to include Indian wear as part of every day dressing and not just as festive wear or special occasion wear as most project it to be. Having grown up in a comparatively conservative city like Hyderabad, all of my college years were spent in churidars. My working years too were mostly in Indian formals, as that was the most obvious choice for the sweltering heat in the city!

When online shopping became a buzz a few years back, the options for western wear and International brands kept multiplying and soon you didn’t have to look beyond your laptop to have the latest trends and styles delivered to your doorstep. Up until then I was still going to my favorite local shops, buying vibrant prints of materials, mixing and matching prints, designing my own kurtas and blouses and trusting my local tailor to deliver the best stitched suits for everyday wear and festive wear. But with the new surge of online shopping sites for Indian wear that stock up on every kind of design, shopping for Indian wear has taken a whole new direction. Whether you are living abroad or living in India, getting your hands on sarees, lehengas and kurtas has never been easier. One such website that offers a great selection of designs along with customization options is CBazaar.

For this particular look, I wanted to play with different Indian accents that could be worn on an everyday basis. White is always an artist’s favorite color as it provides the perfect canvas to throw on splashes of color. Bandhani (tie-dye) dupattas need no introduction at all. The crinkled fabrics with vivid dramatic colors come in so many playful patterns. There is a whole lot of meticulous process involved in creating them and each pattern has a given name and is usually worn for a specific occasion. I had picked this pair of mojaris while street shopping in Pune, and although this is the first instance that I am wearing them I already have tons of ideas for remixing them with both Indian and Western wear. Finished my look with a pair of sliver jhumkas, a few bangles and a printed cloth bag for an evening spent walking around stalls, satiating my visual appetite and getting inspired with all the crafts, colors and designs around me.

So the next time you reach out to wear your pencil skirt or your skinny jeans, give it a miss at least once in a while and instead go the desi route. Don’t restrict yourself to wearing it only for festivals or weddings. We have a riot of colorful options that can look just as classy and trendy as a western outfit, so go exploit them to the fullest and be proud of wearing Indian attire! And in case you need a serious wardrobe update, don’t forget to check out Cbazaar for their various options!

Spruce up your wardrobe!

creativity, Fashion, indian fashion blog, Remix
I think it has finally been deeply ingrained in all our brains that, to have a functional wardrobe you need to have your basics covered. The basic skinny jeans, a white shirt, a pair of classic black pumps and etc. etc. A lot of blog posts and articles have covered this topic so thoroughly that I don’t think there is anything else left to add. But I do have something to say about how to spruce up your closet by adding a few funky pieces. There is no ‘set list’ of statement pieces to have because, well, they are statement pieces! Each unique to it’s own self – be it an accessory or clothes or shoes. There are no rules except to go wild, to go for the unexpected, to experiment and to simply have fun by including one-of-a-kind pieces that take your basics to the next level! Over the years I’ve collected a few of such pieces that never fail to make a statement. This list is a compilation of my personal favorites from my wardrobe. Hopefully it inspires you to buy something the next time you spot a piece that makes you do a double take!

Laptop sleeve that doubles as a statement clutch:
This laptop sleeve has always been a conversation starter. Whether I use it to carry my laptop to client meetings or as an over sized clutch to accessorize an outfit, I’ve always been asked where I’ve purchased it. Personally I love it because it has been customized to include my blog’s name and a piece of art that I really love!

Body chain:
Body chains are a great way of accessorizing an outfit. With the innumerable number of designs available, its almost impossible to narrow down on which one you want. Start with something a little simple. One that can be worn over western wear as well as traditional outfits. One of my favorite ways of pairing it is with a saree. Yes! Just like you wear fancy waist belts (or vaddanams) on sarees, a body chain can also be worn for a really different look. You can then go for shoulder chains too which would look great when paired with a plain saree.

Green harem pants:
In the past few years I have seen about ten different varieties of harem pants but have not liked a single pair except this one. I don’t think I get the concept of a harem pant. Where would you wear it? Personally the drop crotch version is something that I strongly dislike and I don’t think it look flattering on anyone. The only pair that I find comfortable and have worn to death is this bright green pair. Whether its paired with a kurti or a tshirt it never fails to live up to its promise of comfort and style!

Hand made shell necklace:
This particular piece was a special buy, a hand made necklace by an artisan in the tiny town of Mahabhalipuram. The shells, the little mirror and the bright colors instantly made me buy it. Its not a ‘statement necklace’ but it still is a unique piece, one that you don’t get to see often. And definitely not in any high end accessory stores. Hand crafted items have their own personality, their own story. Whether they have a sentimental value of your first trip away from home, or memories of an early morning trip to a far off beach – they are definitely for keeps!

Inkkas shoes:
Okay so by now you must be knowing that I have a thing for anything hand-made and eclectic. When I was first sent this pair of Inkkas shoes, I was blown over. Made from local materials found in a city called Cusco in Peru, Inkkas’s philosophy has always been philanthropy and authenticity. Inkkas is a team of dreamers and their story of how they founded this company is something everyone needs to watch

Big Day Big Sale with LimeRoad

My favorite shopping destination is back with another big Sale! There’s still a nip in the air but it’s never too early to start planning your spring/summer wardrobe right? I am completely a “sunny weather” kind of girl and the thought of floral skirts, maxi dresses and bright colors cheers me up like nothing else. It’s almost time to pack up those heavy woolens, wear pretty dresses and flaunt bare legs. LimeRoad is launching their Big Day Big Sale tomorrow, <!– /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1107305727 0 0 415 0;} @font-face {font-family:Cambria; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1073743103 0 0 415 0;} @font-face {font-family:"MS Mincho"; mso-font-alt:"MS 明朝"; mso-font-charset:128; mso-generic-font-family:modern; mso-font-pitch:fixed; mso-font-signature:-536870145 1791491579 18 0 131231 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:Cambria; mso-fareast-font-family:"MS Mincho"; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-size:10.0pt; mso-ansi-font-size:10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt; font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-fareast-font-family:"MS Mincho"; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria;} @page WordSection1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt; mso-header-margin:36.0pt; mso-footer-margin:36.0pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} -where you can find Buy 1 Get 1 deals on various products. So if you want to grab the right look for the summer season, take a look at the looks I’ve put together for you guys.
Look 1:
A comfortable daytime look has almost become synonymous with wearing a maxi dress! You can make it dressy by adding a little bling to go with your outfit. Coral and emerald is one color combination that I really love. It’s bright but not too in your face. You can add one statement accessory like this emerald necklace and keep the rest of your accessories neutral. These white slip-on sandals and the structured bag add the perfect finishing touches.

Look 2:
Printed dresses are perfect for those days when you are not really in the mood dress up or when you need to head out in a hurry. Since the dress itself makes a statement there is no need to pile on too many accessories. This bird print dress with a pair of comfortable wedges is what I would wear and settle down all day long in my favorite coffee shop with a book in my hand! If you do want to accessorize all you need to do is throw on a statement necklace.

Look 3:
Outdoor parties, good music, evening sunsets, bright lights and great friends to top if off! When the sun goes down, the music goes up. Are you ready for summer parties yet? Use a solid colored dress as a blank canvas to get high on accessories!

Purple and Gold

indian fashion blog, koovs, Look of the Day, oasap, sale
The sale season fever seems to have struck every single person that I know! Be it fashion lovers or gadget freaks, the only talk I hear all around me is of slashed prices, most coveted products and deals that are too good to be missed. I usually always stay away from the sale season for the simple fact that I don’t trust myself around any label that says 70% off! But after two years of not shopping during sales and getting my wardrobe to a state where I use almost every piece of clothing multiple times, I thought it was a good time to get back into the game! I’m a sucker for plaid and checkered shirts and I could live in them practically my whole life and never get bored of them. I think I am well on my way to collecting them in every color available. These cute metallic gold loafers were another sale find. I rarely ever find closed shoes that are comfortable on my feet and I always prefer buying only sandals but this pair is the comfiest ever! Lastly the studded sling back with tassels happens to be one of my favorite purchases. The first half of January has come at me with full force – a lot of new opportunities, decisions and work to be done. If the rest year of the year continues this way then no complaints from me! There are also going to be a couple of changes on the blog front, so stay tuned!

Maandna

collaboration, Fashion, indian fashion blog, Look of the Day, maandna, new year, Styling
January always reminds me of spring and bright colors. Being in South India is equivalent to having practically no winters at all, except for a short span of a month or two. This month is definitely my favorite as it still retains a bit of chill factor and lovely foggy mornings, without the numbing, uncomfortable cold of December. Light layering, bright colors, iced drinks in the afternoons and hot drinks in the evenings is what January is made of! And of course the new year, the fresh start, new plans and all that excitement associated with it (which of course lasts a very short while when we quickly realize that this year is no better or worse than the previous one!).

In keeping with my mood, I decided to wear this bright and cheerful tunic, with tassels in the front,  from Maandna. It’s a recently launched brand on Flipkart, with very comfortable silhouettes and peppy warm colors. I’ve never been into over the top clothing whether for casual wear or festivities, and Maandna with it’s pure cotton & gold khadi print tunics, fits the bill perfectly! I specially loved this and this for the carefully crafted mirror work and embroidery. All their embroidery work is done by desert artisans of Bikaner. Although their collection is limited in number, they have made up for it by making sure that every single piece from their collection is something you would want to buy. I would any day prefer that than to search through a hundred pieces and narrow down on one!

I wanted to make this a cheerful post and what better way to spread cheer than through flowers! And since I am still hungover last month’s get-togethers and celebrations, it just made sense to prolong the holiday mood by adding a bit of sparkle with these copper toned heels and a fancy box clutch.
