Sporty

family, Fashion, Look of the Day
I’ve never been much of a sporty girl except for a phase in school where I was totally into playing basketball and then another in college where I was totally into playing badminton and table tennis. After than my favorite ‘sport’ became foosball *ahem* And for those who disagree, it is a tough sport okay? You try playing it for three continuous hours starting at midnight, when you are already dead tired from giving presentations all day, to win an imaginary championship. Hmph.

I’ve never owned any sporty baseball tees either but when I saw this one, I decided I needed it. Fearless and Sporty – two things that we all need to be in life (and in fashion too if I may say so!). After a recent revelation to a rather ugly, self-centered side of some people I know, I’m all the more proud of my fearlessness. And by fearlessness I mean not being afraid to have an opinion of my own, voicing it and sticking to it. Not being afraid of believing in something strongly just because others don’t see it.

In the words of Charles Bukowski, “When you believe in something or you decided to try something, you need to go all the way, irrespective of how others feel. Otherwise don’t even start. This could mean losing friends, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on the park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery – isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you are going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the Gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It’s the only good fight there is.

Diwali nostalgia

family, Fashion, friends, India, Look of the Day, Madness
Diwali is always a special time at home. A house crowded with cousins and relatives, a big bag full of crackers, and the hullabaloo and ruckus specific and special to your family. But over the past couple of years, diwali has been filled with only two things – decorations and (lots of) photos. Cousins and friends are now scattered across three continents and I miss those times. Luckily we are a family who click photos for every random thing right from a baby’s first sneeze  to hanging a new painting on the wall, so there are always hundreds of albums to browse through every time you feel nostalgic.

One pic shows me holding a sparkler in a hand tightly wrapped in a handkerchief. Before you think I had an accident of any sort, that was my dad’s way of protecting my delicate hands from the flying specks of sparks. Another pic shows me lighting a match and bursting into tears (probably out of fear). I was five. Fun kid I was no? There was this one instance where we were all supposed to take a pic while waving sparklers around in the air. One cousin got a little too excited with the hand waves which resulted in burning a part of my hair. Although it was very little (a few strands) the smell took absolutely forever to leave!

You could be living in a far away land with relatives in India or, like me, you could be here at ‘home’ and your family scattered all over the world. But its just not the same without them! So I compensate by pushing myself into decorating, buying, re-doing, creating, dressing up and clicking loads of pictures… to browse through for another day!

p.s I din’t shop this diwali (surprise suprise), so I just threw together a festive-ish outfit and headed for lunch. Red (is always) = big festive occasion, so problem solved! 😉

p.p.s An outfit shoot after almost a month! We were so excited that we ended up with too many pics. Hence the slight overload!

Where’s the birthday girl?

family, Look of the Day, Madness
I’ve been under the weather for the past few days, sneezing and coughing. Every time there is a slight change in the weather or a dip in the temperature my usual cycle of sorethroat-cold-cough-fever starts. It is soooo annoying. I need to do something to get rid of it once and for all.

I thought I would get better by my birthday but it just got worse. Now you already know that am not big on birthdays (you should be knowing that by now) but that doesn’t mean I want be sick. So being my stubborn self I went ahead washed my hair, which I hadn’t washed in 4 days by the way *insert gasps of horror* It’s a wonder it din’t all fall off my head. The MAX I can go is one day without a hair wash so four is wayyyy too much. So you can’t blame me for trying escape my mom and grandma’s clutches while they tried to tie me up to the bed in case I go have a long cold shower. I mean its my birthday come on! I need to look normal. At least.

After convincing myself that clicking pictures was the only way I could cheer myself up (I hadn’t stepped out home for 4 days mind you.. I was going cray-cray), I got dressed, got clicked and flopped back on the bed exhausted. Not moving an inch till tomorrow, but it was totally worth it. I am surprised by my own dedication towards blogging. The things we bloggers do! Phew!

Funny face.. cheery face.

Weekend at the beach

family, Fashion, Look of the Day, Travel, weekend
So cyclone Nilam paid us a visit. Thankfully no major disasters happened except that my cell phone flew right from my hands and smashed into a tree while I was trying to record the experience-of-being-in-the-eye-of-the-cyclone-for-the-first-time-ever-in-my-life. It survived.

I had a couple of days off, so naturally I had to go laze around at the beach. Except that it was raining constantly (which is the best time to visit the beach in India if you ask me) . And it was so cold – Four words I never thought I would utter while in Chennai.

February and March Lookbook

family, Fashion, Look of the Day, lookbook, weekend
I had to meet up my friends for lunch today and now I am just back from an amazing dinner with my parents (After so long!). Its been a long day and I am desperately trying to keep my eyes open in order to type this post. If I told my 18 year old self that one day I would consider 11pm as ‘late’, I would have laughed my head off. But the day has come my friends. Its 11pm. And its late. And all I want to do is sleep and rest my body. Of course I’d feel different by tomorrow night but that’s a different matter.

Feb and March have been two very productive months this year in terms of professional life! Here’s a snapshot of how I dressed for various places in between all the professional madness!

February Lookbook:

1, 2, 3
March Lookbook :

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Another one down!

Art, family
Ever since I made this painting for my sister’s house, my mom has been after me to make one for our house as well. And then one for each of our relatives’. Ummm… yeah mom, we’ll talk about that later okay?

I paint more of landscapes or the sea or some far off distant tree.. (Hey that rhymed!) or something equally abstract-y and meaningful. Now painting ‘Gods’ never fell into that category.. so I gave it my own twist and a lot of color!

Personally I feel the other one came out better.
Click here to check out all the paintings!

As you can tell I was slightly in love with the dupatta. And its crumpled. And I look dead tired. Which means it was a fun day and it was worth it!
Oh and Happy Sankrathi/Pongal/Lohri – whatever it is that you are celebrating!
p.s – Purvi from Purvi’s creative hub was sweet enough to give me this award. I’ve already done ‘7 things about yourself’ tag here, here and here!
Thank you Purvi! 🙂

For my Little sis – Guest post by the big sis ;)

family, Guest post, Look of the Day
The one who rummages in my wardrobe for that one top that ‘might’ fit her and turns my organized closet into a mess. The one who wears my shoes even though they are one size small and in turn makes them loose for me. The one who buys a little something for me every time she goes shopping – be it a cute coffee mug or a chunky bangle. The one who shouts and threatens me when am buying a pile of useless stuff. The one who originally got me hooked to online shopping :P. The one who’s got the most unique sense of style and dares to wear stuff that we ‘normal people’ would never attempt.

The one and only!!! My sister!

We have the most varied yet similar tastes. Every time we go shopping we end up buying totally different things and I hate her selections. But the moment we come home and she tries it on, I am begging her to give it to me!

Time is flying!…

..It seems like just yesterday…

1. …when we had time for almost everything
2. …when I was counting on good calories in my diet
3. …when I was happy and jumping with the good ‘pregnancy hormones’ which were making my skin glow and hair all glossy.
4. …when my house was spic and span and we were a ‘neat couple’ with the philosophy of ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’
5. …when the weekends extended up to two in the afternoon lazily snuggling in the bed with absolutely no guilt.
6. …when I was looking out for 0000 size bub clothes in the stores.
7. …when we went all excited to choose baby pram and car seat.
8. …when we bought him his first toy.
9. …when we caught the plane to India all excited to show off our new possession (baby boy is after all a matter of pride according to still prejudiced Indians)
10. …when I was checking my weight almost every day and ‘boo-hooing’ over not losing even a kilo despite all the ‘bub-work’!!
11. …when we were buying 3-7 kg ‘for new born’ Huggies

…all these seem happening just yesterday…

Reality does strike sometimes like this one – three more months to go and we would be busy laying out the first birthday invite card for Vibhas [my 9 month old 🙂 ]

As long as I have such cherished memories I don’t care if time isn’t a slow mate of mine anymore!

This is a little something I wanted to do for my little sis (our only official fashionista cum official fashion blogger in the entire family…****toast****) – my fashion sense is a bit hindered by the hectic ‘bub-schedule’ but sometimes I do manage to put some accessories on and try a bit of mis-matching stuff I have long forgotten about in my wardrobe 🙂

I cannot believe how busy she has become! It really does seem like just yesterday when we were spending so many useless useful hours shopping and gossiping! With the arrival of a baby, your whole world changes and boy oh boy! Did her world change or what! When it comes to accessorizing I am way wayyy behind my sister. I am always confused by ‘How much is too much?’. Even with the most minimal amount I feel like its ‘too much’. Give me re-mixing clothes any day! Oh well! I am still learning! But she throws on the most random things ever and manages to look flawless. It also helps that she is 10 times prettier than me!

Highlights of 2011

Blogging, creativity, family, friends, Musings
2011, where do I start? Do I even want to start? Even thinking and recollecting what this year has been like seems like a chore to me and added to that is the fact that almost every blogger is doing a year end round-up post. But I did want to write this post ages back and since one of my new year plans (the word resolution totally puts me off. Hmph.) is to complete every task and idea that I have, here I am penning down this totally imperfect and incomplete list of highlights.

2011, you are a blur to me. A whirlwind that tore through my life, scattering my carefully laid out plans, throwing away my ideas in every direction possible, trapping me in your angry arms and leaving me lost and confused. Okay it wasn’t that bad.

I joined Art classes in January which I had been postponing since 4 or 5 years! I started attempting paintings which I thought were totally beyond my capability and they turned out to be amazing! Plus I had an amazing time with fido! 😉

Then came February and I was busy planning for a trip to Sydney. It got postponed, work got disrupted, and I got super annoyed. Just as suddenly, everything fell into place and before I knew it my bags were packed!

March and April were spent in sunny/rainy Sydney. Beaches, long drives, shopping – A LOT, eating – A LOT, and being very lazy at home. And then the worst thing happened. I had to leave *sniff*

Much to my (and many others’s) surprise, I started style-blogging in May. I took baby steps because I was so extremely conscious. Initial posts were bad, photography was worse! But I think I’ve improved now (Feel free to disagree! ;))

June came but the rains didn’t. It was my birthday month and I had finally, miraculously gotten over the feeling of ‘growing-old’. I din’t feel bad one bit, and it was a very pleasant day when compared to my previous birthdays.

July marked the arrival of family from abroad. Whole month was spent ooh-ing and aah-ing over my little nephew! Nothing else! 😀

Attended my cousin’s wedding in August. I met her after almost two or three years. Had a great time with cousins, with midnight visits to the beach!

September and October were spent being buried under books. So much for all the studying. Results were not good 😐 September proved to be a month where I was constantly doubting my capabilities whereas October proved to be one of the best months of my life!

Rest of the year, November and December  were mostly a struggle. A struggle to find a balance, to find the right path, to make the right decision, to choose the correct option and to find answers.

Blogging-wise it has been a great year. Started writing at two other blogs too! I met some really brilliant people, all thanks to my blog. The kind of talent that is spread across blogosphere never fails to amaze me. Such genuine brilliant writers and stylish ladies!

I do not want to tag this year as the best or the worst or anything for that matter. I just want to let it be, for no year is perfect!
And in Peevee’s words (for I simply loved them!) You say GAH? I say double GAH to you 2011!
Happy New Year to one and all! And 2012 – bring it on!

Pet stories II and Poll II

Blogging, family, Look of the Day, Poll
I feel like getting a dog again. And by that I meant for you to understand that we did have a dog before and we had him for thirteen years.

A pomeranian, crazy as hell, and impossible to train (Think Marley from ‘Marley and Me’). I doubt he ever understood a single command of ours, and even if he did he sure as hell dint bother to follow it. My mom and sister used to play rough with him. Cuddle him, hug him, let him lick and bite and all that. But I never liked that(the licking and biting part) and the best part was he knew. He would automatically become gentle and docile when he was around me.

He came to our house when he was a month old, scared and shivering and left when he was thirteen, half-blind, half-deaf but very much loved. I’ve been wanting another dog since then but my mom has put her foot down. ‘You get your own house, then you get your own dog’ is what she says.. which is fair I guess. I was just passing by his corner when I remembered how we used to make a little bed for him during winters so that he wouldn’t feel cold, and how he used to end up getting tangled in his blanket every single time and then start whining for help!

Wherever he is in doggy-heaven, he must be driving every other dog, cat, bird.. in short every animal CRAZY!

Anyway, I have no idea why I remembered my dog now… (oh yeah! I was browsing cute pet clothes for winter) but back to fashion!
Now that we have almost reached the year end, time for a little poll. This poll has been lying in my drafts since soooo long. I’ve posted so many new outfits after this, so let’s finish off with this poll first and then start with the others! Do vote and let me know your favorites! 🙂

Feel free to mention any other favorite outfits that are missing in this poll 😛

p.s – you have the option of voting for TWO outfits.

                                           ONE                          TWO                       THREE
